Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical foundations of population statistics, its main indicators (number, composition, natural and mechanical movement, density, level of urbanization, etc.). It also highlights the practical significance of population statistics in the economy, social policy, healthcare, education and labor resource planning. The article shows the methods of collecting, processing and analyzing statistical data on the population, as well as the role of compiling demographic forecasts based on them in public administration and territorial development. The conclusion emphasizes that the effective use of population statistics is an important factor in socio-economic development.
